The Challenge & Objectives

Streetwear drops demand immediate visual impact and frictionless checkout experiences without performance degradation. Traditional 2D apparel stores suffer from high return rates due to inaccurate customer expectations around garment silhouettes, drape, and graphic placement. • The objective was to engineer a high-aesthetic digital storefront for high-density drop sales that integrates interactive 3D garment inspection directly in the browser, while maintaining sub-second Time-to-Interactive (TTI), zero layout shift, resilient multi-variant inventory tracking (SKU/size/color), and a streamlined administrative pipeline for lookbook curation and seasonal drops.

Architecture & Engineering Decisions

• 3D WebGL Pipeline: Embedded React Three Fiber (@react-three/fiber) and Three.js canvas utilizing optimized GLTF/GLB models with orbit controls and runtime model hot-swapping, isolating 3D rendering to client boundaries to avoid SSR hydration stalls. • Modern SSR & React 19 Architecture: Built on Next.js 16 App Router using React Server Components for database-driven catalog fetching, combined with selective client hydration islands for motion choreography (Framer Motion) and cart persistence (Zustand). • Relational Schema & Integrity: Implemented MySQL via Prisma ORM with strict cascade referential actions across Products, Variants (unique SKU indices), and Media. Engineered server actions with slug/SKU collision auto-resolution and atomic transaction updates. • Client-Side Image Pre-Processing: Integrated browser-side image compression (browser-image-compression) prior to multipart uploads to slash server memory overhead and preserve upload bandwidth on mobile admin devices. • Route Protection: Enforced Next.js 16 Proxy layer for administrative route authorization using encrypted HTTP-only session tokens.

System Architecture Blueprint

Frontend Engine

Next.js 16 App Router + React 19 + Tailwind CSS v4

Server-side rendered product catalog with selective client hydration islands, Framer Motion choreography, and Zustand cart persistence.

Database & ORM

MySQL 8.0 + Prisma ORM

Normalized schema with relational variant tracking, unique SKU constraints, cascade deletion integrity, and dynamic store configuration.

Infrastructure

Three.js + React Three Fiber + Browser Compression

Real-time WebGL interactive 3D model viewport paired with client-side canvas image downsampling for high-efficiency uploads.

Security Protocols

Next.js 16 Proxy Route Guard + HTTP-Only Session Auth

Edge-level admin cookie verification, sanitized file upload handlers, and strict server action parameter validation.

Business Impact & Results

• Delivered a sub-1.5s initial page load with a consistent 60 FPS WebGL render loop across desktop and mobile devices. • Reduced raw image storage payload by ~70% via client-side compression before server ingestion, eliminated out-of-sync inventory errors through automated SKU indexing, and achieved zero-runtime downtime during high-traffic promotional drops.
